75 Hard: Challenge in Perseverance

Yesterday I began the 75 Hard program. Wish me luck and perseverance, because I’ve only known 75 Hard to be… welp, hard. I tried to complete this at the same time last year, but only made it 41 days. If you’ve never heard of this program before, it’s basically a challenge to complete 7 tasks a day for 75 days straight. It was created by Andy Frisella, who owns a few companies and is also founder and CEO of 1st Phorm, a nutritional supplement company. So, what are those 7 tasks I mentioned earlier? I’m about to tell you!

Tasks

You must complete TWO 45 minute workouts each day. One of those two workouts has to be completed outside.

Second, you must drink one gallon of water each day.

Third, you must follow a diet of your choice every day for 75 days.

You must complete 10 pages of reading in a non-fiction book each day.

Also, you must be dry (as in no alcohol) each day and no cheat meals allowed.

Finally, you must take a progress photo of yourself every day for 75 days.

My 75 Hard Program

You may be saying to yourself that there are only 6 sentences above, but I said there were 7 tasks. Basically the first sentence is two tasks which is the two workouts, one of which, again, must be outdoors. Last time I tried 75 Hard, I definitely go caught out in the rain, wind, and cold. I was caught in a full on thunderstorm, which was poor planning and poor awareness on my part.

I’ve wrangled my husband into doing this with me because accountability can make it easier to persevere. He has already completed 75 Hard twice. So maybe wrangling isn’t the correct term. We have found that the best way to get an outdoor 45 minute workout in, is to take our dog on a morning walk around the neighborhood. A very early morning walk, like at 5:30 in the morning. That way the hardest part, in my opinion, is completed before our kids (aged 7 to 15 years old) even wake up.

The diet we chose was to stay within a prescribed caloric intake each day for weight loss, while trying to stay as close to our daily macros as possible. This is helpful when we celebrate three of the kids’ birthdays in the next couple of months. One skinny sliver of cake added into our calories won’t hurt, as long as we save them earlier in the day.

Being dry is not hard for me, because I don’t drink anyway. I’ve always considered it to be extra calories and the taste just doesn’t do it for me. However, for those of you that feel like you wouldn’t want to try this out due to the no alcohol rule, you could always try out the non-alcoholic beers. What I find harder is the water intake. I just don’t feel the need to always be drinking liquids. So, this is good for me.

I hope you’ll be thinking of me for the next 74 days… Maybe even trying out the program with me! Check out more about the program and Andy Frisella here.
