Mission Organization: Organize by Starting Small

Organizing can be cathartic! Apparently, I am on a mission to organize my entire home. As I started small, each accomplishment has become fuel to organize again! I’m finding my eyes are opening to ALL the areas that work my nerves. Once I see the messes or disorganization, I think to myself, “I can fix that!” Thankfully, they are pretty small areas. Areas in which I can organize in a short amount of time. Like, less than an hour!!

Mission Organization: Bag Cabinet

Now, not everyone has a bag cabinet in their home, I’m sure. But, maybe you have an area like it. Our bag cabinet houses reusable bags, lunch bags, and trash bags. It happens to be a cabinet in our kitchen, which is why we keep the reusable grocery bags and lunch bags in there. It also happens to be the cabinet right next to our trash drawer, so we also keep our trash bags in there. For almost three years now, the cabinet has been stuffed with these bags. They would fall out, the right size was hard to find, and not to mention the cabinet looked just plain messy.

1. Empty Everything

The first thing I did was empty the cabinet. There were lunch boxes stuffed far in the back of the cabinet. There was also a bunch of paper bags from our favorite grocery stores that we use for taking donations to school or Goodwill. I knew I wanted to find a spot for these.

2. Declutter and Sort

There wasn’t too much to declutter in this cabinet. Most of the items I needed to keep because we use them on the regular. It was just the way they were placed in the cabinet that was not helpful. I did sort all of the items however, and grabbed a couple of baskets that I had leftover from my linen closet clean out. The groups I sorted from this cabinet were lunchboxes, trash bags, reusable bags, and brown paper bags.

3. Organize and Make It Pretty

Now it was time to put everything back, but in an organized and pleasing manner. I found a super easy way to fold my reusable bags on Pinterest, and placed them into one of the baskets I had available.

I also used my other basket to hold all the paper bags we have, including paper sacks for lunches.

These two baskets went on the top shelf, and the remaining bags I had went on the bottom shelf. The finished product was an amazing improvement that makes me feel all warm inside when I open this cabinet now.

I’m loving my newly organized bag cabinet and look forward to that warm and fuzzy feeling each time I have to get in there! I hope this inspires you to go and organize!
